I did not believe it at first when i read an email from Adbrite telling me that they were closing. I checked the address many times just to mail sure it was the right Adbrite email. This was one of the shocking news i have recieved in the recent weeks. As an Adbrite user, i had not seen any sign that Adbrite would close.
Adbrite has for long been the #1 alternative to Google Adsense. It has been a large advertising network with so many publishers since, just like Adsense, they did not require a publisher to have a lot of traffic.
The closure letter which the company sent to the publishers read below
Dear adBrite Advertiser,
Over the last few weeks, adBrite and its management have been evaluating the go-forward plan for the business. Given market conditions and certain financial liabilities, in working with our lenders, we have decided to cease operations on Feb 1, 2013.
This is a difficult decision for all of us at adBrite. However, after much deliberation this seems to be the best course of action despite the impact it will have on all the employees, clients and partners who helped build this business. There will be a team in place as needed to assist with winding down your campaign, and final reporting and invoicing.
Thank you for being part of the adBrite community.
The adBrite Team
It is reported that Adbrite had wanted to sell off the firm before the closure but no deal was reached. The reason for the closure was ofcourse lack of enough profits or profits at all as you can see in the letter above. AdBrite claimed to be the largest independent ad exchange with a transparent marketplace, but it too sad that they could not manage to stay afloat.
