I first found out about the Google +1 button from inside my account.  Well, i love Google since it is the reason why i am very active on the web.  I immediately decided to find out more about this new feature, the information i got initially was not too much detailed, but, i  learnt that the Google +1 button was all about friends and driving traffic.

I am one of those people who like everything which includes getting geniune traffic. I tried to figure out how i can use this feature to drive traffic to my blogs and websites. However, i soon realized that the idea behind  was all about friends.

Google is not the first to introduce such idea, Bing and Yahoo have been using it for sometime. But frankly, it has not changed anything in the search world.

Poor Content First

One of the short comings about this +1 button is the fact that quality is compromised for the social. I really like Google for the quality search results, but his button is set to change and seriously compromise the quality of the search results. If you are among those who have ever used Google bookmarks, then you should be knowing what i am talking about. The bookmarked pages appear first in the Google search results no matter their quality.

Friends Get Lost

According to Google, this  +1 button will be just like the recommendation button,  It is shorthand for “this is pretty cool” or “you should check this out.”

However, as well know, people are different likes, there is nothing which can prove that what my friend like is what i like.  I do  not need to check out what they check out.  I might even end up surfing a lot of irrelevant things just because my friends checked them out.

Google said “Click +1 to publicly give something your stamp of approval. Your +1′s can help friends, contacts, and others on the web find the best stuff when they search”

I do not think that my friends will always surf the best stuff

The Google +1 Button will Kill Quality Traffic

There are many webmasters who have concentrated on providing quality content for internet users.  This good idea is now under attack, it will also kill the heart of Google search results. When many people get used to the +1 button, it will no longer be about quality of the content but about what your friends read. Because of this, traffic to quality content might be lost, unless many people recommend it.

Friends on Google

The + button is  for only those with Google accounts, now, the question is, how many friends do you have with Google accounts. What will be interesting to see is if there is a significant amount of people signing up to get Google accounts to start using the +1 button.

Adsense Under attack

In reality, you might find out that most of the recommendation might be by and for webmasters who might not care much about adsense who also known for being the source of the lowest CTRs

It is absurd to think that you can make good money from Adsense when most of your site visitors are web masters.
